day 6: Saturday June 20 afternoon—Snowflake
Goodnight my friends,
Snowflake
day 6: Saturday June 20 afternoon—SnowflakeI walked off lunch by joining the hike to Erikbreen. There was LOTS of snow and water hiding underneath it! Sarah and Nemo led the way. When we got up to the vantage point, we spent some quiet time taking it all in. It was meditative and magnificent. I'll leave you with the beauty of the midnight sun. One of these was taken by Snowball at 7:54 and the other by me at 23:37. Can you tell which is which?
Goodnight my friends, Snowflake

day 3: Wednesday June 17 afternoon—Emmerson and Snowflake
Back on the tallship, I showed Snowball the photos Snowflake and I took on the hike. She showed us this... I will write my classmates when the real polar bears appear! Bye for now.
—Emmerson It's been over a month now since we embarked on our Arctic adventure and we'll be taking these next few weeks to retrace our journey. We arrived in Longyearbyen on June 10, three days before our fellow artist explorers were due in town, so we had some time to look around.
Costa and Electric QT went to the Global Seed Vault in the afternoon. We couldn't go in (Costa gave the door a try) but it was still interesting to see the structure and get another view of Spitsbergen. Hello from Longyearbyen, the largest town on the largest island Spitsbergen in the archipelago known as Svalbard. This morning, we had our Polar Bear safety briefing and logistics run through with our program coordinator Sarah and expedition leader Theres. They are AMAZING! Tomorrow we board the Anitgua and head north. We caught a glimpse of our soon to be home on our walk back into town. It's the barquentine tall ship right in the middle. We'll be offline for two weeks...so see you end of the month!
Our adventure begins today! We're headed to the airport in a few hours to start our journey to Longyearbyen. Have a look at our flight route and check back in for trip updates. We'll be posting intermittently until we're back in Oslo on Canada Day : ).
Electric QT spent the past week with his class learning and reading up on the Arctic. His classmates gave him a camera and watch for his adventure!
We're very excited to have Cayber join us on our Arctic adventure. He arrived overnight via SF Express all the way from Shanghai! He is Charis' learning buddy--designed and made by her! I used to teach Charis but she now travels the world and her classroom is wherever she goes. She has shared her learning with me from her trips to Tasmania, Spain, Turkey, China, Japan... and we go on learning adventures around Hong Kong when she is back in town. Learn a little more about Cayber from his letter below. We need to go pack now!
Our newest explorer is set to go! She took a bit longer to make and will have to leave her antennae camera at home. I did make sure she had her side heaters though. She will be nice and toasty on the trip! She won't be bringing any luggage as she has a lot of gear on her already. Any other small items she can make use of her two front pockets.
