day 7: Sunday June 21—Electric QT
Summer Solstice is upon us, the longest day of the year. Everyday so far has seemed long though with the midnight sun. A furry friend was spotted near Kilneset by Jisun around 10:30 this morning as the Anitgua was making its way from Hornbækpollen to Mushamna. I was thrilled. We kept our voices down as sound travels quite far up here and we didn't want to disturb it. | Costa stayed up way past midnight last night and Tito let him in on a secret after his artist presentation. Curious as to what that is inked onto his arm? We certainly are. It's the coordinates for where the boat from Tito's Atlas project is buried! We're so keen to find the location and visit it. Would it be overgrown by now? Let us know if you make it there before us. Tito is an architect and artist. He reminded us of our book friend Iggy Peck, Architect. We love Tito's work—the life he gives his art and the stories they become a part of. We can't wait to see how his flags project will unfold and what it will teach us. |
There is a Polar Bear score card in the wheelhouse and this is a quick drawing I made of it when I went to see Captain Jo and Jim to ask them more about the bears. In all his time in the Arctic, Captain Jo has seen ~500 PBs. The mama bear we saw gets a score of 2 as she is thin. : ( She needs to hunt more seals to eat. | Up on the aft deck, I found Sarah trying out Siobhan's heliograph. The small brown dots are some of the burn marks made onto the paper strip. |
Model: Cloud is my favourite and next would be Staircase. I can imagine them being compressed into a tiny space, packed and then unpacked, expanding back into empty space. After seeing her work and all the rope onboard, I want to try making some art with string, rope, thread, wire...
I wonder how many more animals we will see the rest of today. I best start journalling before there are too many more to add to today's sightings.
Bye for now,
Electric QT
