It's been over a month now since we embarked on our Arctic adventure and we'll be taking these next few weeks to retrace our journey. We arrived in Longyearbyen on June 10, three days before our fellow artist explorers were due in town, so we had some time to look around.

We're very excited to have Cayber join us on our Arctic adventure. He arrived overnight via SF Express all the way from Shanghai! He is Charis' learning buddy--designed and made by her! I used to teach Charis but she now travels the world and her classroom is wherever she goes. She has shared her learning with me from her trips to Tasmania, Spain, Turkey, China, Japan... and we go on learning adventures around Hong Kong when she is back in town. Learn a little more about Cayber from his letter below. We need to go pack now!
Emmerson's class just began an IPC unit titled All Dressed Up and shared this Young Explorers video from the British Museum with me this morning. The beginning shows some Arctic clothing and one is made from sea mammal gut!
What special clothing do you have? Why do you wear it?
Thanks for connecting your learning with us Y2A. I have missed countdowns! They used to happen more frequently when I was in the classroom. There were countdowns for pretty much anything I could think of that needed a countdown...which in my book was plenty : ). Most of my time lately has been spent researching, planning and getting things ready for the trip. In the next fifty days, I'll be showing you here what I am bringing with me and sharing what I've been learning preparing for the expedition. I'm really enjoying visiting classes here in Hong Kong and finding out what you know and are interested in. I've gotten some good advice for the Arctic from a fourth grader too: layers, lots of layers. This is my favourite note so far: I'm down with the drawing but rest assured there will be no bringing of meat or feeding of polar bears. I wonder how many different animals live in the Arctic and how many I'll actually be able to see.
